What is the Invisalign process and how does it work?
It begins with a comprehensive exam to determine if you are a proper candidate. If the answer is “yes”, the next step are records—extra and intra-oral photography, impressions or scans of your teeth, followed by a full diagnostic exam of what you are trying to correct. This information is then sent to Invisalign, and a 3D model is made via a dedicated software called Clin-Check. This software creates a digital treatment plan of your teeth that the doctor reviews, and modifies online, to achieve the results. With this 3D model technology, the doctor can insert clear, composite buttons, better known as attachments, to achieve proper tooth movement. Each attachment has specific pressure that is applied to the tooth to allow the proper movements to occur. Once we have achieved a desired, 3D outcome online for you, the clear aligners can then be fabricated.
Once the aligners are delivered, you will be required to wear each aligner for 20-22 hours/day for 1 week to successfully correct the chief concern—crowding, spacing, overbite, etc. Depending on the complexity of the case, each patient’s treatment span will vary. Once the clear aligner treatment is concluded, the doctor may make minor adjustments, or contouring, to the teeth to provide the most aesthetic and functional results. Finally, we then provide a set of retainers of similar origin to be worn to retain the movements we have accomplished.
